The 50th Topolino downhill ski trophy will be held on March 18 and 19 in Folgaria and in the nearby plateaux of Lavarone and Luserna, after spending four winters in Panarotta, in Valsugana. The young skiers’ event moves just a few kilometres over to the plateaux for the first time ever in this area where skiing and other winter sports are common practice and where the Student’s Championships were held last year. In the history of Trofeo Topolino, the plateaux of Folgaria, Lavarone and Luserna join the list of Trentino locations that have hosted the event in the past: Madonna di Campiglio, Monte Bondone, Folgarida, Marilleva, Pinzolo and Panarotta. Since 1958, the year in which the Disney cartoon character first accompanied the young skiers in their races, the Topolino downhill ski trophy has engaged thousands of young athletes from all over the world, many of which then went on to become famous world champions, such as Gustav Thoeni, Stenmark, Girardelli, Zurbriggen, Tomba, Reich, Moelgg, Wachter, Compagnoni, Rocca, Karbon, Putzer, Razzoli, Poutiainen, Pearson, Mancuso and Vonn.
